about

Written and recorded predominantly on the evening of June 6th 2011. I can't remember if the keys came first or the guitar. It came together so quickly and I got so ambitious with it that it's become my favourite song that I've written so far. It felt like I was on to something special, sitting on my living room floor recording it as i wrote it. The lyrics took me about 10 minutes to write and I left them as they were.

We've rehearsed this a bit and, although it sounds completely different to this version, I still like it.

lyrics

It's dark outside and the moon is out.
The wind cuts through the trees and I'm caught in the headlights.
Not for the first time and not for the last
Trying to make peace with my past but I'm done trying.
An old photo
Many years gone by.
How'd they go so fast?
Time moves by but I just can't keep up.
But I just can't keep up.

Always thought there was an easy way
Hoping life would hand it on a plate.
I'm cold and alone.
Wishing my days away.
Take a drive to another place far away.
I've still got hope but I haven't got a plan.
I wish I could understand where I went wrong.
But I can't make amends.
I left it late again.

Every time you walk away you take a part of me
And I'm lost without it.
I'm lost without it.
I take my time to get it right but still you go to leave
And I'm lost without it.
I'm so lost without it.

My mind plays things over again
Like a scratched record skip-skipping parts.
If you're the vocal I am the drum beating out of time.
I'm trying.
I learnt my parts but the song seems to have changed
It never sounds the same.
Did you change your tune?
Could you tell me how it goes?
Could you tell me?

Every time you walk away you take a part of me
And I'm lost without it.
I'm lost without it.
I take my time to get it right but still you go to leave
And I'm lost without it.
I'm so lost without it.

Let's take a chance.
Let's take a chance.
Let's make it right.

Every time you walk away you take a part of me
And I'm lost without it.
I'm lost without it.
I take my time to get it right but still you go to leave
And I'm lost without it.
I'm so lost without it.
