about

I think a lot of people's parents want their kids to take the "safe" road in life. Get a steady career. Don't take risks. Keep your head down.

The verses are about the 17 year old me. The chorus is about how I perceived my parent's worries about me. I can't say that I wished I'd gone against what they said and took the risky route as I'm happy with who I am, what I have achieved, I'm in love with a beautiful woman and I have a kick-ass cat called Vincent. At 17 though, I was an angry young man and I felt as though my life choices were being made for me. I felt like the kid in Suicidal Tendencies "Institutionalized" - "All I wanted was a Pepsi".

lyrics

My dreams arrive in stereo.
It’s all I ever think about.
I write it down, makes it feel real.
I knuckle down so I get it right.
There’s always someone there to doubt
What I can or can’t achieve.
I wish I was strong enough to say
Regardless I still believe in you.
In me.
In all these things.

You’re working hard.
You’re doing fine
But you lack ambition.
You’ll never be what you want to be the way you are.
Go work on site or with your hands as per tradition.
It’s all for nothing.
You’ll never see your dreams come true.

Always 100% - in reality about half.
Why am I scared to push ahead?
Is it because I know I can’t?
My parents want me to find
A suitable path in life.
You can’t dream too big around here.

I want it all, I’ll make it work ‘cause I’ve got ambition.
I’ve got belief that I can achieve what I want.
I’m working hard and I don’t care what you say – You can go to Hell.
I’ll make all my dreams come true.
